1.-What makes Edward different from the rest of the community?

He has been aisled from the world his whole life because he wan't born but invented in a laboratory. He had just seen one persone other than himslef: his inventor. He is an unfinished invention, so he doesn't know everything he should and has scissors instead of hands

2.-How do the other characters react to Edward's 'scissorhands'?

At first they reacted very scared and they were so frightened. But after they accepted him and asked him son favours.

3.-What does the word 'handicapped' actually mean?

    Hand•i•capped /ˈhændiˌkæpt/ adj.
    1. physically or mentally disabled, as by accident, birth defect, etc.:a handicapped person.

4.-Is it Edward's physical difference or is it the prejudices of other people that prevent him living in the community? (Or a bit of both?)

A bit of both, as his scissorhands don't let him use most tools, necessary for a normal life. Still, he could have integrated himself in the society if the rest of the people had been more open minded and not as prejudicefull

10.-What might Edward's 'scissorhands' represent if the film was made in a more realistic style?

Asperger's syndrome, which causes autism and makes social interaction way harder for the patient

    1.-He has scissors for hands.

2.-First, they think he is a freak then they use him as you would use a pair of scissors and not as a person and finally they just ignore him.

3.-It means that he has something that prevents him from doing what other people do.

4.-Edward's physical difference makes him look different but it is mainly the prejudices of other people that make his living in the community difficult.

5.-When he cuts hair and makes figures from grass and ice. It is a threat when he cuts people with his hands.

6.-When he breaks into a house.

7.-They are presented as hypocritical because as soon as Edward makes a mistake they turn theirs backs on him.

8.-The mansion is dark and scary but Edward is good and the city is colourful but the people living in it aren't very nice.

9.-To make it more interesting for people to watch and so that they can learn while having fun.

    10.-A prosthetic.

11.-At first you are scared of Edward but later you realise that he is good and honest and brave.

12.-It teaches you not to “judge a book by its cover” and to wait to get to know someone to really know how he/she is.

13.-It means to judge someone or something by a first impression without really get to know it. Discrimination involves picking on someone on the basis of a prejudice but people with prejudices don't necessarily pick on people.

1.-What makes Edward different from the rest of the community?
That he has scissors instead of fingers and he has never lived in a community
4.-Is it Edward's physical difference or is it the prejudices of other people that prevent him living in the community? (Or a bit of both?)
It´s a mixture of both of them because his phisical apparience make people have prejudices so they tried to expell him from the community.
7.-How are the community presented as hypocritical?
Because when peg call to their door when she´s working they refuse her, but wen she comes into the town with Edward they give her attention and they treat her as if they were friends.
11.-How are your assumptions changed during the course of the film?
At the beggining we felt that Edward was heartless but then we saw that he has lot of feelings so we felt emphaty.
12.-What does this teach you about judging someone by appearances alone?
We don´t have to judge anyone by his phisical appareance because is not what they.

    1. What really makes him special is the fact that he instead of hands has scissors, and because of this he has lived apart from everybody.

    2. All the neighbours like him because he is different from other people, so they react in a good way visiting him, asking him for a haircut or for their dog's haircut, inviting him to their parties... except for the weird woman that plays the piano, who reacts scaping from him.

    3. A handicapped person is the one who has some physical or mental disabilities and suffers many difficulties (like Edward).

    4. Obviously he is different from the others because of his ''hands'', but also the prejudices of other people make him feel bad, dangerous and guilty because of his acts.

    5. He is special when he does community services, such as cutting the grass, people's hair, dog's hair or when he shows his feelings, but he is a threat when he feels nervious or angry because he starts breaking things or hurting people.

1.- He has scissorhands and lives isolated from the rest of the community
13.- A prejudice is an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason. While discrimination is the treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit
2.- The mother takes care of him like a son. She is kind and always tries to protect him.
The neighbours love him at first. They find him quite interesting and use him for their own benefits. Edward takes care of their gardens, cuts their dogs hair and finally becomes their hairdresser. When Edward is cought in Jim's house, they start rejecting him. One of the neighbours thinks he is evil and a demon. She warns the other neighbours about him. Another neighbour is attracted to him and tries to rape him.
At first, Kim is afraid of him and thinks he should leave the house. But she slowly falls in love with him.
Jim, is jealous of Edward because Kim defends him. He hates him and even tries to kill him.
3.- It is sometimes offensive and means someone who is physically or mentally disabled.
8.- They live in an apparently perfect neighbourhood filled with coloured houses and matching cars. It's a clear stereotype of the "american dream". But the film shows us that the people living there aren't as perfect as they seem. They are hypocritical and gossip.

  10. EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.

1.What makes Edward different from the rest of the community?
The difference between Edward and the rest of the people is that he has scissors instead of hands, because he was created by an old man. He was a robot. He couldn't distinguish bad things from good ones.

2.How do the other characters react to Edward´s 'scissorhands'?
The family wants to help him while other neighbours like the religious woman are laughing at him or judging him. When he arrived at the city at the beginning of the film all the neighbours are cuirious about who is he, and they try to meet him.At the end, when he was cought inside the house and they thought he was stealing something, they wanted to send him to prison.

    8. How do the film's settings and lighting suggests that the appearences can be deceptive?
Edward's house is represented like a dark, old house, although he is not a bad person, while the city where the neighbours live is very colorful. However, the neighbours are very curious and they criticise other people. That's why appearences can be deceptive.

9.How is the fantasy/fairy tale structure used to convey a serious message?
The film is criticising that people always judge other people when they are phisycally different. This film is trying to make people realize that nobody can be judged just because his appearance, because maybe that person is better than what we thimk about him/her.

12.What does this teach you about judging someone by appearances alone?
This film teaches us that we shouldn't judge a person before we know him/her at all, beacuse maybe this person is differet from what we think and we are wrong about him/her.

    Edward Scissorhands

1.-What makes Edward different from the rest of the community
Edward has scissors in his hands and in the start of the film he lived in and an abandoned house. Also he don´t talk more. His body is like a machine, but he has feelings.
2.-How do the other characters react to Edward's 'scissorhands'?

First the people are a bit scared because Edward is different. He has two terrible scissorhands and he uses them to cut many different things, also he has some accidents with persons when he was afraid. But some days later that he arrives, everybody like to cut their hairs and decorate their gardens with beautiful statues of shrubs.

3.-What does the word 'handicapped' actually mean?

They are all the people that have physically or mentally disabled. Nowadays all these people are highly respected and they have many ways to lead an ordinary life.

4.-What does this teach you about judging someone by appearances alone?

You can´t judging someone by appearances alone, but I have already thought it before I watch the film. Most of the people only look to your appearances and only sometimes they try to look in your inside. This film is a good example about it. Edward is a fantasy transformation of machine to a human, but unfortunately his owner couldn´t complete his project. Edward was alone for much time.

5.-How are the community presented as hypocritical?

Although Edward helped all the community, anyone help him when he need. In the end of the film everybody try to capture him because they thought that he is a monster and he tries to hurt them. He must fake his death to live quiet.

    Sergio García and Imanol Lobo:

1- He has scissorhands and it is a invention of a famous doctor.

3- Physically or mentally disabled, as by accident, birth defect, etc.

4- A bit of both, because he is different and the rest of people have prejudices.

5- When the people want to use him for their needes, they think he is an special person, but when they are angry with him, they discriminate.

2- Some of them like the principal family react good and they look after for him, but the neighbors use him only for their needes.

1.-What makes Edward different from the rest of the community?
    He has scissors as hands.
2.-How do the other characters react to Edward's 'scissorhands'?
At first the neighbours wanted to be their friend, specially the women, but in the final part of the film everybody hated him.
3.-What does the word 'handicapped' actually mean?
Something that you have and cause you some problem, like being blind or something like that.
4.-Is it Edward's physical difference or is it the prejudices of other people that prevent him living in the community? (Or a bit of both?)
I think both, he has scissors on his hands and objects in the community aren't prepared for that type of human but also he could get used to that kind of things with a bit of help. Also the community is a bit hypocrital, because they accuse him for everything without searching the real truth.
13.-What does the word 'prejudice' actually mean? How is prejudice different from discrimination?
It means that you judge somebody or a group of people because you know something about their culture or the way the think etc... This knowledge is predeterminded by the tradition.
I think prejudice comes firts than discrimination.

1- The thing that makes Edward different from the rest is that his hands are like scissors.
2- People are usually afraid of him and think he is strange. The live him alone and try to avoid him.
3- Actually the word handicapped is referred to disable people. Someone with any type of mental or physical disabilities is handicapped.
4- The prejudices that people have is the biggest reason that prevent Edward from living in the coumunity but also the attitude he has towards his own illness.
5- It is seen to be special when it is for the benefits of others ( cuting someone´s hair or garden) but it is seen as a threat when he without doing it on porpuse hurts someone.
6- The thing that makes the difference is the effect that has on others. It is special when it is a positive thing but a threat when is a negative,
7- They agree with helping others when it is good for them but not when when they dont get an benefit from it.
8- Giving Edward an image of a bad person when he was very grateful and kind.
9- Mixing reality ( the comunity ) with fantasy ( having scissor hands) in order to show how people behave towards disable people.
10- A person with mental or physical disabilities or a strange person.
11- We dont have to judge other people before meeting them and knowing them.
12- We dont have to do that because the might be awesome people and you can be hurting him whithout noticing it.
13- Prejudice is forming an opinion before becoming aware or the relevant facts of a case. It is different from discrimination because this means living someone aside because of your prejudices.
