    Questions for discussion
    1. Did you like this film? Why/why not?
    We really enjoyed de film because it shows the human rights clearly and it teachs you that if you want, you can.

    2. Chris wants a better life for him and his son. What do you think he sees as happiness for his son? Do you think he makes the right decisions to achieve this?
    His son should do what he wants, without anyone going around telling him the rules. I think he makes the right decission because the things he teaches his son are good for life.

    3. ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.’ (United States Declaration of Independence).
    This declaration seems to equate happiness with safety and security. To what extent do you agree with that?
    We couldn't agree more, every moment in life need happiness and that's the only thing that matters.

    Do you think this is what Chris Gardner sees as happiness?
    Chris Gardner thinks that doing things only you enjoy guides you to the joy and happiness.

    4. Do you think that people have an unalienable right (i.e. a right that should not be taken away from them) to happiness? Why/why not?
    We think that of course is an unalienable right because your feelings depends on you.

    No, because, for example at school you try hard and study a lot for the finals and at the end you only get a six.

    6. What things do you think we should pursue in life? Is happiness one of those things? Why/why not?
    Yes, because we're here to be happy and enjoy life.

    7. Why do you think so many people in our society see happiness in purely material terms?
    -Because they dont know waht happiness really means.

  2. 1. I enjoyed the film a lot. I thought it was a heartwarming film about family and love and about how you can conquer anything if you set your mind to it.

    2. He wants his son to live in a nice house and have lots of toys and be able to go to football games like all the other kids. Although not all the decisions he makes are good decisions for his son the result of his work pays off in the end.

    3. When you're safe you're happy because you don't have to worry about anything. When Chris sees the stock brokers in the street he can see that they look happy because they have money and the don't have to worry about paying the bills or anything.

    4. Everyone has a right to happiness but different people may find happiness in different things.

    5. I would like to believe that when you set your mind to get something you get it but sometimes things don't turn out the way you expect them to.

    6. In life we should always pursue happiness. There's no use doing things if you are not happy because in the end being happy is all that matters.

    7. Because money is the thing that makes the world go round and people that don't have it worry all the time. But just because you have money doesn't mean you are going to be happy.

    The pursuit of happiness

    1. Yes, we liked it because It's a beautiful and nice story which makes you think about the really important things in life.
    2. When Chris thinks of happiness It must come to his mind a life with his family and with a nice job, so this way they could stop worring about economic problems and allow them to do normal things as everybody can, for example going to football matches, buying his son some sweets or at least having a place to sleep and enough food to eat. Finally we find out that he had made the right decision, but at first It was a bit risky because It was going to be just one person who could get the job.
    3. We completely agree with that statement because for us happiness also means equality, safety and security as these are the main things to have if you want to obtain a good life. Chris also sees happiness like that because he is just looking for a simple safe life.
    4. Of course everybody has the right of reaching happiness because that's the main porpuse of this life; enjoy it and having fun with the others.
    5. Yes, you must always believe in what you think and you would work hard if you are sure that what you really want is going to be archieved. You must always pursue your burning ambition.
    6. In life you must try to have a good life next to the people you love, and if you have a son your main purpose should be taking care of him and giving him a great life. Yes, happiness is one of those things that you must bear in mind.
    7. Because they relate happiness with the amount of money you have and they believe that the better material things you have, the better kind of life you will get.

    Background
    The film is based on the true story of Chris Gardner, who did go through extreme poverty before ending up as a multi-millionaire. Some of the details were altered for the film: Linda, for example, is a mixture of the two women in Chris’s wife, and solving the Rubik’s cube is fiction added to the plot.
    Will Smith saw the real Chris Gardner interviewed on 20/20, the American human interest programme. When Smith met Gardner he felt an instant connection, particularly with the idea that a person has command over their future, whatever their situation. Christopher, Gardner’s son, is played by Will Smith’s real-life son, Jaden.
    Will Smith was Oscar-nominated for Actor in a Leading Role and feels that ‘it’s the best work [he’s] ever done.’

    Yes because it shows you how is the real life and how it can change in a moment.
    2. Chris wants a better life for him and his son. What do you think he sees as happiness for his son? Do you think he makes the right decisions to achieve this?
    His son could go to the school because it is really important and to have a home to come from there.
    He does the posible to improve their life.

    We completely agree with that statement because for us happiness also means equality, safety and security as these are the main things to have if you want to obtain a good life. Chris also sees happiness like that because he is just looking for a simple safe life.

    Everyone have the right of being happy, but you have to walk and look for it.

    In most of the cases yes, but not always because not everything is posible, although you must try to get what you can.
    6. What things do you think we should pursue in life? Is happiness one of those things? Why/why not?
    The happiness is the most important thing we will have in our lifes because we come to be happy and to make the rest of people happy too.

    Because money is the thing that makes the world go round and people that don't have it worry all the time. But just because you have money doesn't mean you are going to be happy.

    1. We have really liked this film because it is so emotinal that you can´t stop watching it. It shows the great effort that Chris has to do to get out of poverty. The most impressive thing for us is that he does it with a smile in his face and making it as a tale for his son so that he doesn´t notice. His attitude is so admirable.


    2. We think that he does make the right decisions to achieve happiness because instead of just wanting enough he teaches his son to go after his dreams and try to be the best he can.
    The things he sees as happiness for his son are having people that love you, learning a lot in everyday life, chasing your dreams and helping others.

    3. This declaration seems to equate happiness with safety and security. To what extent do you agree with that? We think that safety and security are rights that every human has to have but they are not the same as happiness. Happiness for us is the most important of all the rights and it is kind of the one that controls the other ones because if we all want happiness for ourselves and he had into account that others do too we would obey all the other rights.
    We don´t think that that is the happiness that Chris chases. The kind of happiness, in our opinion, that he is looking for is has more to do with going after your dreams, improving as a person, helping others…


    4.Yes, theoretically that is what we all should have because the reason why we are in this world is to achieve happiness. But practically there are people who only think in their happiness and not in other´s rights so here is when controversy comes.

    5. We think that that quote is almost true but when you want something you have to also think about your abilities, your limits and the people that are around you. Also you have to be careful not to hurt anybody and make sure you are fair and achieve things because of your effort and hard-work.


    6. Of course we think that happiness is one of those things. Happiness is the biggest thing that you can achieve because, achieving that you will be achieving a lot of things at the same time that will lead you to happiness. We can also pursue our dreams, our beliefs are goals…

    7. We don´t really know why this happen but it could be because they have never felt the happiness that non material things make you feel. Or it could also be because they have the image of films where people who are reach look like they are happy.

    I like it becausse it shows how is the real life and how it can change in a momento, and also that the perseverance have good things.
    2. Chris wants a better life for him and his son. What do you think he sees as happiness for his son? Do you think he makes the right decisions to achieve this?
    A life with his family and with a nice job, so this way they could stop worring about economic problems and allow them to do normal things as everybody can, or at least having a place to sleep and enough food to eat. His decisión was very risky, but at the end it finish well, so we thenk that is a good decision

    We are agree with that statement because the basic thinks you need to be happy are equality, safety and security. Chris also sees happiness like that because he is just looking for a simple safe life.

    Sometimes yes, but not always because not everything is posible, you must try to get what you can.

    Happiness is the most important one, the otrers will be inclued in it. Because, for examble, you want a familia and to create it you need someone that makes you happy to stay whit him/her your life.

    We not sure but we thing that is because the “filled” them selves whit that thing and they things that that was happiness.

  8. The Pursuit of Happiness (Josselyne Sarango Torres)
    1.- I like so much because there are many different aspects that make you think. Also the characters are very professionals and it has an especial argument.
    2.- He wants a better life for his son, a life with a normal house, a beautiful family, and the opportunity to go to a good school in the future. Although some decisions aren´t good because in some cases, he hurts his son.
    3.- When you're safe you're happy because you don't have to worry about anything, so I’m completely agree with that. I think that all the people needs to have this opportunity and have a real life. Chris also sees happiness like that because he is just looking for a simple safe life.
    4.- Of course yes, everybody have it. But I think that its more easy for someone than the others.
    5.- Yes, if you work hard enough you can get all you want, it´s not going to be a easy way but the goal is the best reward.
    6.- That it´s right, happiness is very important in our life. We need material things, but this is secondary, if we aren´t happy all our life will be worse and solitary.
    7.- Because they don´t know the real meaning of happiness, they only have materials things, and they need many different things that they can´t buy.
